Hyaluronic acid exists naturally in all living organisms and is a universal component of the spaces between the cells of body tissues (extracellular space). Approximately 56% of the hyaluronic acid concentration in the body is found in the dermis (middle layer) of the skin. The elastic properties of hyaluronic acid offer resistance to compression, so that the skin protects underlying structures from damage. At the same time, hyaluronic acid allows the collagen fibres to move easily through the interstitial substance.

This lubrication by hyaluronic acid allows the skin to accommodate the changes in shape and volume that occur when the underlying bones and joints move. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin diminishes, as the skin cells lose their ability to produce hyaluronic acid. This can be demonstrated by squeezing the skin between the fingers. In young people, the skin rapidly restores itself to its original volume. However, as we get older, the ability of the skin to restore itself is reduced. The reduction in volume of hyaluronic acid plays an important role in the development of wrinkles.
What are Teosyal Meso® and Restylane Vital® and how do they work?

Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that has an identical chemical structure, no matter whether it is found in simple bacteria or in human beings. Teosyal Meso contains pure hyaluronic acid manufactured using a bacterial fermentation process – it is not derived from any animal or human tissue sources. Hyaluronic acid can retain 500 times its own volume in water, swelling to plump out the skin and intensively hydrate it from within. This hydrating property not only helps the skin to look and feel firmer, but also aids in the transport of essential nutrients from the bloodstream to the skin cells. It is targeted at a broad range of treatment areas, helping to hydrate the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face, neck, décolletage (the area between the neck and breasts) and hands.

Teosyal Meso and Restylane Vital are two different brand names of hylauronic acid that we use to help provide deep hydration of the skin resulting in a plumper, firmer and younger looking complexion.

What happens during the treatment and how long will it take to recover?

Your first discussion with our specialist practitioner should clearly set out your expectations of the treatment and the practitioner should tell you whether or not these results are achievable using Hyaluronic acid. Your medical history will be taken, to ensure that there are no reasons why you shouldn’t have the treatment. The treatment is straight forward and our nurse practitioner will use a very fine needle to place small quantities of Hyaluronic acid immediately beneath the surface of the skin. This is is different technique from using larger amounts of hyaluronic acid as in the use of dermal fillers to plump out lines or recontour the face. Each treatment takes about ten to twenty minutes and is generally not painful. If you find it uncomfortable, a topical anaesthetic can be applied prior to treatment. Most people find that they can return to work the following day after this procedure.

How safe is Teosyal Meso® or Restylane Vital® Treatment?

Millions of injections using hyaluronic acid have now been performed in people around the world. After treatment some common injection related reactions might occur. These include transient erythema (redness), swelling, pain, itching, bruising, discolouration or tenderness at the injection site. Typically resolution is spontaneous, within one or two days after injection into the skin.

Who is not suitable for treatment with Teosyal Meso® or Restylane Vital?

Studies have not been performed on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Although Hyaluronic acid is not thought to be dangerous, treatment is best avoided during this time.

What results can I expect?

The course of treatment typically includes two to three build-up injections at 14-day intervals followed by a booster injection after three to six months. As Hyaluronic acid is completely broken down within the skin over a period of months, eventually leaving no trace of the filler, further top ups may be required every 6 months or so. Clinical studies have shown that three sessions of treatment with Hyaluronic acid injections achieve the desired result in nearly all cases. 80% of people were also still satisfied with the result three months after treatment. . Teosyal Meso and Restylane Vital are excellent products for restoring and maintaining the balance of hyaluronic acid in the skin helping to intensively hydrate and plump out the skin resulting in a smoother, firmer, less wrinkled complexion.
