Facial volume loss is caused by aging. As we age our skin loses volume. Less elastin and collagen is produced, leading to sagging, sunken in skin and weaker facial muscles. Facial volume loss contributes to the development of wrinkles.
Sometimes this process can occur at an early age – as young as the 20’s – depending upon a person’s genetics and lifestyle choices. A person who smokes is likely to age faster. Stress and certain medications can also trigger these changes.
Treatment for facial volume loss are dermal filler injections. Different injections are available:
Hyaluronic Acid- Hyaluronic acid adds volume to the cheeks and its effects are semi-permanent, lasting up to 18 months.
Poly-l- lactic acid- Known as Sculptra, this series of injections stimulates the body to produce its own collagen. Collagen gives the skin a fuller appearance. Injections have to be administered monthly for several months but the effects are also semi-permanent and can last up to three years.
Restylane Sub Q – Restylane Sub Q is another form of hyaluronic acid that can be injected deeper to give quicker results and restore a youthful complexion to the face. It contains anaesthetic to provide the client with a more comfortable experience.
